David Lang (b. Los Angeles, California, 1957) is an American composer. Together by owning Julia Wolfe and Michael Gordon, Lang co-founded Bang on a Can in 1987.
He may be seen as a composer world health organization challenges a status quo. He for instance gives his concert pieces unknown, & potentially iconoclastic titles like Eating Dwelling Monkeys (1985) & Lunkhead (1990). His music may be successively: comedian, abrasive material, soothing & it commonly retains elements of conceptualism. These are likewise informed by modernism, minimalism, and rock -- and might mayhap become better described per term post-minimalism.
He was the major contributor to the string quartet music, performed by Kronos Quartet, in the film Requiem for a Dream (2000).
Lang holds degrees from either Stanford University, the University of Iowa, and Yale University (Ph.D., 1989). His teachers keep around involved Jacob Druckman, Hans Werner Henze, and Martin Bresnick.
Lang's music has been freed on the Argo/Decca, BMG, Cantaloupe Music, Chandos, CRI, Point, and Sony Classical labels. His scores come published by Red Poppy Music (available from either G. Schirmer, Inc.)
